Chapter 3

Debris was piled everywhere, no sign of life anywhere.  The sky was clear of clouds, allowing the sight of stars to be seen for the first time in quite some while.  A gentle breeze blew by, causing the surrounding meadow of grass to wave like an ocean of green.

It was then one of the piles of rubble began to shake and fall apart.  Emerging was the ruffled form of Dr. Gero and one with an infuriated expression on his face.  His clothes were torn; various scraps, cuts, and bruise were visible on his visible skin.

His lab…ruined.  His whole life, his work, gone in an instant.  This wasn't how it was suppose to happen.  That monster wasn't supposed to occur, especially after all the calculations and research he had gone through to get to this point.  A transformation like this shouldn't have occurred.  Where it all went wrong, Gero didn't know, but there had to be some variable that he didn't know about.  Yes, that was it; something completely out of his control and outside of his calculations had caused this.  It wasn't his fault!

Looking about the wreckage of the lab, the doctor sneered.  How dare the mangy gorilla destroy his sanctum?  He would show just who it was dealing with.  He wasn't the one to be put in his place, he did the placing!  He just needed to get in contact with his connections and that rabid beast would be put down within the hour!

As lights appeared and closed on his location, Gero began walking from the rubble.  He had work to do and those peons of his would be more of a hassle to deal with as they would question him about what happened here.  They were scientists; they would have to figure it out themselves.  It was their jobs after all.

Now then, who did he need to contact first…

---

Traffic was backed up for blocks.  Many cars were blaring their horns in irritations, many thinking that the more they used the horns, the quicker the traffic jam would clear up.  Oddly enough, the closer one came to the jam, the less you heard the horns.  In face, most of those cars were empty, their drivers and passengers fleeing in all directions.

Videl found herself standing next to her own car, the door wide open as she looked at the reason for the jam.  A gigantic ape was tearing up part of downtown, swinging its arms wildly and letting out deafening roars.  Buildings were destroyed upon impact with its fists, cars were crushed under is hand-like feet, street lights were torn from the ground as its legs bumped into them.

Dear Lord, what they hell was it?!

Videl paused to roll her eyes.  It was a giant ape, she had already identified it as such.  Geez, fear really did make people act stupid.  But where did it come from?  It obviously didn't just spring out of some building downtown.  It had to come from somewhere outside the city and if she were mistaken, it was coming from the way she normally took to get to the lab.

Wait a minute.  Was this the reason she had been called back?  Had this monkey done something at the lab and headed here?  Oh great, just perfect, what the hell could she do to help stop this thing?  It wasn't as if she were Wonder Woman here.

Yeah, perhaps she needed to go hide somewhere; you know, so that this thing didn't try and kill her.  Videl wasn't a coward, just so you know, but even she would have a problem trying to take down a ten-story ape.

Another loud roar rang out from the ape as he began beating a building down into rubble, slamming its wrecking ball sized fists into it.  Correction, make that a ten-story, pissed off ape.

It was then Videl began hearing a faint flapping noise.  At first she didn't pay much mind to it since she did have much bigger problems at the moment, but soon she recognized the noise growing louder and louder.  As she rounded the corner of a building, she was treated to the sight of heavily-armed, attack helicopters swooping by, flying straight for the angry ape.  For a moment, Videl felt as if she were stuck in the middle of a battlefield and the cavalry had just came charging in to save everyone's behinds.  In other words, it was a very great feeling.

There were five in total from what she could count, peeking around the building to watch the impending action.  As the helicopters closed in on the ape, they began firing their machine guns, a low humming sound occurring.

And as she hoped, the bullets made contact with their target.  As the ape roared, Videl soon got the impression that the bullets weren't piercing its hide, since no blood seemed to be appearing, nor was the ape slowing down in its destruction, swinging its arms even more wildly than before.  Just great, they were pissing this thing off more than it already was!  Ending their torrent of bullets, each helicopter went into its own evasive maneuver, dodging the ape's gigantic arms as said arms tried to hit the vehicles.

Unfortunately, one of the copters wasn't able to move as nimbly as its counterparts.  A seemingly random swing nailed one of the copters, causing it to explode in midair.  Damn it, was the military not even enough to handle this thing?!

For a moment, Videl lost sight of two of the copters, finding them again as they seemed to appear above the intersection next to her, facing the giant ape.  Hovering in midair, they soon fired two missiles each, smoke streams following each projectile's flight.  A moment later, an explosion erupted on the ape, causing it to cry out, this time in pain.  Yes!  A direct hit!

And then another roar sounded off; this time even angrier than before.  Through the thick cloud of smoke, the ape emerged, stomping towards the two copters, its very sharp teeth bared for all to see.  But then, instead of chasing after the helicopters, it stopped, just growling despite the other two copters firing their Gatling guns at it again.

Videl just watched on in curiosity.  What the heck was this thing doing?  It wasn't acting like any animal she was aware of.  It was almost as if it were…planning?

That was when the ape opened its mouth, a glow appearing from the back of its mouth.  A moment later, a huge stream of flames erupted from its mouth, reaching from one side of the street to the other and covering the distance between it and the two attack helicopters in seconds.  Videl barely hid behind her corner as the flames arrived, letting out a scream from the intense heat right next to her.  Unfortunately for the helicopters, they completely disappeared in the fire, most likely the last anyone saw of them.

The only thought going through Videl's head at that moment was how the hell an ape could breathe fire.  Wasn't that just for dragons?!  This was completely unfair, for Kami's sake!

Once the fires died down, Videl looked around her corner to see most of the street looking like a melted candle, from the buildings to the cars.  The ape was letting out another roar before he fired another torrent of fire, hitting the remaining two copters easily.  In celebration, the ape began pounding its chest as it let out its nth roar of that night.  Oh sure, taunt everyone with your mightiness, you damn, dirty ape, Videl seethed.  Seriously, where did this thing think it was hot stuff (no pun intended)?  It was sooo unfair.

And as the ape stopped its celebration, it seemed to calm down, just making loud breathing sounds as it seemed to zone out.  Standing there, it then moved one of its arms to the back of its head and began scratching.

Videl blinked.  Wait…was that…it couldn't be.  She'd been seeing that reflex at least three times a day for the last couple of weeks.  But it just couldn't be, it just couldn't.

There was no way that thing was Gohan.

---

Gero was torn between admiration and rage.  Admiration for the fine combat abilities his creation was showing; rage for the fact that it thwarted his attempted at taking it down.  The fire had been an unexpected development, but so far half of him was thinking this thing had been just the thing to put him on the right track.

The other half still wanted to kill the blasted thing for all the damage it had done to him though.

At least killing the monster would provide him with plenty of opportunities to figure out what made this subject so special to cause such an incredible transformation.  A little tinkering and he could put such powers into a regular person sans giant, unstable monkey.

But he had a slight problem; how was he to handle it right now?  So far conventional weapons had as of yet affected it.  Either its skin was as impenetrable as Kevlar or its fur was thick enough to keep anything from reaching its vulnerable skin.  Then again, what did he know about how guns and missiles worked?  He was a scientist; he didn't have time to know all about those macho-idiot weapons when he could make something so much more destructive.  And less messy too while he was at it.  If there was one thing he detested, it was clean up.

---

Videl had been following the ape for what seemed like miles in the dark and without headlights.  She didn't want to alert the thing she was right behind him after all.  Also, she wasn't sure whose car this was since the person had left it sitting alone and with its keys in the ignition; very thoughtful she had to admit.

After the ape had shown the city whose boss, it had decided it had enough of the city life and headed into the less inhabited country to stalk around.  Lumbering on for what felt like hours, it found a nice pond to drink at and sleep next to, curling into a fetal position.  Its breathing slowed soon after, its sides rising and falling at a rhythmic pace.

Okay, so now what?  It wasn't like she could kill the thing because a) she was a good hundred times small than it, b) she had no weapon she was sure would actually kill it, and c)…

C) That thing could be Gohan and she would feel really bad about having to kill him.  Unlike her boss, she did care about living things or so her conscience told her.  But what could've caused him to become this?  She wasn't aware of any experiments that could cause something like this.  Then again, she wasn't even apart of any of the experiment projects going on, so there was a possibility something like this could happen.  Small, she would think, nonexistent even.

While Videl was consumed in her musings, she failed to see the giant ape slowly shrink until a small, naked form was lying in its place.  By the time Videl realized this, her first thought was the ape had gotten up and disappeared, not a very comforting thought since it could be right behind her and she wouldn't know until she did something rather stupid.  But that would've been impossible since…well, just look at it!  It was bigger than most buildings and had a tendency to cause earthquakes just by moving.  It wasn't going to suddenly develop stealth-like abilities from a nap!

Or…could it?

Well, there was only one thing to do.  She had to find out what happened while she had zoned out.  Though she didn't like the thought of it, she had to turn on the headlights.  It was unfortunate the ape had a thing for lights, but she really couldn't help her situation.  Holding her breath, Videl turned on the headlights, the lights reflecting off the pale skin of a person instead of a hairy monster.

For a moment, Videl blinked her eyes owlishly, trying to figure out what in the name of Kami had happened.  The naked person was lying where the ape had, so it was very possible that person had reverted back to their normal form.  Maybe.  Fingers crossed.

As slowly and carefully as she could, Videl opened the car door and got out, staring at the body all the while.  When she felt she was still safe, she began venturing towards the body, soon standing right next to it, a blush forming on her face.  Yeah, this guy was naked, not something she was used to looking at, but she did admit he had a nice looking body.

Just as her eyes were moving towards the man's pelvic area, Videl closed them as she tried to get a hold of herself.  Now wasn't the time to be admiring naked people.  She could do that later.  Right now, she needed to figure out what she was going to do with this guy…correction, she needed to find out if this was Gohan, then she could worry about what she would do with him.  Opening her right eye, so that her sight didn't wander to other places, she focused on the man's head and wouldn't you know it, a familiar spiky haircut was present.  Yep, this was Gohan alright.

And as luck would have it, he began to stir.  His eyes fluttering open, he just stared out in front of him before moving into a sitting position, yawning widely as he woke up.  Oblivious to the girl behind him, he just soaked in the sight in front of him before he asked out loud "Where am I?"

Obviously he was just talking to himself, but Videl couldn't help but answer him.  "Out in the middle of nowhere."

The young man slowly turned his head to look at her, frowned, then looked down at his less than covered body.  Looking back at her, his hands calmly moved to cover his man parts.  "Okay, why am I in the middle of nowhere and naked?  I'm pretty sure this wasn't the study I signed up for."

Videl cocked an eyebrow.  "I think I should be the one to ask that.  You're the one that led me out here."

"I did?  Weird, I don't remember coming out here at all."  He frowned again.  "In fact, I don't remember much of anything.  Is it possible I'm being tested right now, Videl-san?"

"Ehh, I don't think so, Gohan-kun."

It took three whole seconds for Videl to realize just what she said.  Gohan-kun as oppose to Gohan-san?  When had they crossed that bridge?  Oy, this night was getting longer and longer.  Before she knew it, they'd be finishing have sex and smoking cigarettes together.  Perhaps a far-fetched idea, but hey, she didn't refer to someone as –Kun after just a couple weeks of knowing them.  Fortunately, Gohan didn't seem to catch the change of title, just looking out at the pond next to them.

Well, perhaps it was time to get out of here.  After everything that happened tonight, it was probably a good idea Gohan didn't return to the lab.  The doctor probably wouldn't like seeing him again if what she thought happened there was right.

"I think it's time we go, Gohan-kun.  I like nature as much as the next person, but it's late, I'm tired, and you're naked."

"Okay, Videl-chan," the young man said as he rose to his feet.  Okay, maybe he did catch that change of title.  Turning away from him, Videl began walking to the car, doing her best to not look Gohan's way.  She didn't know what she would do if he noticed her eyeing him in his current state.

What a night this one turned out to be.
And part 3! I know there's a bunch of stuff left unanswered, but that's what sequals are for. Assuming I get around to one that is.

Once again, hope you like it MaMa!
